Time for Provincial Status
Mirpur Khas Division, with a population of 4.6 million and an area of 28,171 km², is larger than 65 countries in population and 86 in land area. Despite its strong agricultural output, notably as Pakistan’s premier mango and red chili producer, it faces poverty, underdevelopment, and chronic neglect, receiving under 3% of Sindh’s development budget. Around 50% of its population lives in poverty, 55% of children are out of school, over 80% lack access to safe drinking water, and thousands of crime cases are reported annually. Experts believe that granting provincial status could be a game-changer, ensuring fair representation, improved governance, and balanced development.
